A commitment to society

Paulussen Advocaten values social engagement and corporate social responsibility.

Our firm has a broad sustainability strategy which is embedded in our practice and beyond.

We actively contribute to raise awareness and seek dialogue with our clients and wider society on the importance of sustainable development and the circular economy. We work with public and private sector clients on the renewable energy transition, green procurement, environmental issues and the integration of sustainability in spatial planning, mobility, real estate and city development projects.

Paulussen Advocaten was one of the founding fathers of the Dutch Green Business Association (De Groene Zaak), now integrated in CSR Netherlands (MVO Nederland), and assisted in the foundation of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute in the US, to help advance the circular economy.

The firm is also involved in sponsoring and pro bono counselling in social, environmental and cultural projects and its lawyers are regularly involved as directores or advisory board members of non-profit organizations and institutions in these sectors.

Internationally, Paulussen Advocaten is best known for its world class climate litigation team. The team is headed by partner Roger Cox and acts on behalf of the NGO’s and citizens in national and international climate litigation against governments and polluting companies. This public interest litigation is focused on enforcing the duty of care to prevent dangerous climate change and protect human rights.

The team achieved historic and precedent-setting victories in the cases Urgenda Foundation against the Dutch State, Vzw Klimaatzaak against Belgian federal and regional governments and Friends of the Earth Netherlands and others against Royal Dutch Shell.

As a result of this important work, Roger Cox was named one of the 100 most influential people of 2021 by TIME.
