Consumer law lays down the rights and obligations of consumers in business transactions. The span of consumer law is very broad, encompassing everything from distance purchases and door-to-door sales to energy contracts, telephone subscriptions and insurance policies, to travel industry regulations.
Most of the constituent rules in consumer law are of a mandatory nature, meaning deviations at the consumer’s expense are prohibited. For instance, vendors are not allowed to exclude liability for intentional acts or omissions or gross negligence in the general terms and conditions they apply to agreements with consumers.
Business owners also have to take account of the new consumer rights rules that entered into force on 13 June 2014, imposing various new requirements primarily regarding information supplied to consumers.
Our lawyers are familiar with all the latest laws and regulations and can advise you accordingly. They can also screen your general terms and conditions and amend them to comply with the standards now in force.
