Environmental law

Environmental law is a specialised field concerned with governmental protection of the environment. It applies a broad definition of this concept, regulating the effects of diverse activities on the surroundings (humans, animals, plants, air, soil, water). Environmental law is always concerned with striking the right balance between environmental interests and the other interests at stake, often commercial and financial/economic.

Our lawyers are practised in balancing such interests. Many projects, especially those involving spatial development, can only come to fruition and completion if the environmental aspects are properly identified and taken into account early on. Our lawyers advise market parties and public authorities to help them get projects up and running while managing all the related environmental factors.
A tailored approach is crucial, as is avoiding problems down the road – whether this involves bringing the project into line with general environmental regulations or the specific way in which an environmental aspect has to be organised via a permit.
In addition to project consultancy, we also advise authorities and market parties on one-off (as opposed to large-scale project-related) environmental issues surrounding authorisation, enforcement, recovery of costs, liability and environmental provisions in agreements.
